All fighting sports involve aim, timing, and focus. Any other sport will compliment fighting when it involves these three skill factors.

Baseball is good for balance leverage and timing. Aim is also huge when throwing, catching, or hitting.

When a fighter throws a punch to the body he or she needs leverage and torque. Hitting baseballs or softballs in a batting cage is good practice for this. You turn your back side to the front and turning your torso while swinging the bat.

You do exactly that when you punch to the body. A baseball moves at any speed. Therefore, you need timing just like you do when you fight. Everything in fighting is in milliseconds. So is a speeding baseball. Can you hit the target on the body and you can hit the baseball while in flight?

Both involve quick decision skill sets. The key is how good are you on the fly? Can you predict, aim, and actually hit the target in milliseconds? The faster you turn up the speed in the batting cage the quicker your reflexes will become. Hitting the ball at 60 miles and hour or better is about the same as the speed of a punch. Of course you have more time in batting cage verses getting hit. However, most people don't have previous sports

backgrounds or experiences. Sports help people draw from a well rounded variety of sports instincts.

Baseball , Tennis, Basketball, and Football all use eye, hand, foot, coordination. There is attacking and defending at a very high level and rate of speed.

Archery, Golf, Shooting Skeet, and Hunting use aim and high levels of anticipation and concentration. The wind direction and your ability to focus determine your success in these sports.

You can be the most powerful fighter there is, but without aim you won't hit the target to win the match.

Shooting Skeet involves one second to focus, aim, and shoot. The same as in dove hunting, duck hunting, or shooting quail. 1 2 3 4

We at White Collar Boxing attempt to do the some of these activities so we can improve our skills as an athlete. It is fun and educational for some of the WCB participants. For others it is far more fulfilling than playing a video game. Shooting a real gun or pulling a trigger on a joy stick. Hmm.. which do you think is more fun?
